Anatomy

School is out.
Finals are over.
Friends are back in town.
life is still complex
but it is also beautiful.
The human back is also complex.

That was a bad segway.
Whatever.

I have been experimenting with overlaying my drawings with tracing paper so that I can label all the muscles and identify the main masses. It has helped a lot.

"I'm darthvader
I know what I'm made of
'cause I was warmed by the sun, the sun....
your looking for me
but it's not what you see
cause I've got a twisted personality."

"I was looking for you
and I'm glad I found me a special kind of personality
you are Darth vader
I know what your made of
you are like a lunge, a lung...
you were warmed by the sun, the sun...."

Oh I am so excited. One of my dearest friends is coming back from living in canada tomorrow, and school is almost over for a month, WHOOOOO, and I went thifting today and found tons of amazing things, and I went to a wonderfully colorful music store and found a CD with loads of Beatles recordings. Amazing. And I get to sleep in a ton. And my physics exam is off my shoulders. My friends, the world is a beautiful, colorful, and sweet sounding globe. I hope tons of you share this feeling, and if you are down, I hope you feel better about life soon.

Haha today I feel like a preppy wood nymph who wants to go punk but is too girly to pull it off because her bigest inspiration is Audrey Hepburn.
Tomorrow I am going to wear skinny jeans and flowers in my hair.
When I was little I looked at Cicely Mary Barker’s book of flower fairies for hours.
I got hippy combat boots in the mail, but I am not going to open the package till by birthday, because that is what they are for, and there has to be some element of surprise.
Anyways, I hope all you dears had a wonderful thanksgiving and a wonderful week.
Real time photos will resume when I get a camera, promise.

Crazy

Sorry for the lack of posts. Things have been crazy. Research papers, physics test, portfolio review day (Lyme Academy accepted my portfolio!) and now cleaning and cooking for thanksgiving, not to mention looming collage applications, finals, and friends coming home form collage for a few days. Anyways, a few weeks ago my dad asked to take a portrait of me so here is the only one that turned out nicely. Oh and guess what? I got this awesome unitard /cat lady suit that I am psyched about.
I am working on a post about punks (I have been feeling punk/grunge lately, but I don't have pictures sorry), as well as a post with lots of pictures of my portfolio, so hold in there.

Well.... my dad was getting pictures of all the pieces in my portfolio and I asked him to take a picture for my blog because my fodder was rather stale, and here are the results. He has really good ideas for pictures, no? Here I am flying on the wings of my art.
The top and sweater are thrifted, and everything else is UO.
And how lame is it that I have only finished one decent painting in my life?

"I'm worried that students will take their obedient place in society and look to become successful cogs in the wheel - let the wheel spin them around as it wants without taking a look at what they're doing. I'm concerned that students not become passive acceptors of the official doctrine that's handed down to them from the White House, the media, textbooks, teachers and preachers." Howard Zin

Hippies and Post Hippies

The hippy look was linked with the scene of rock music of the late 60's, just like the Beatnik movement was linked to the Beat artists. Bands began to brake away form the button-up look that was inspired by the Beatniks and instead wear brocades, velvets, leathers, clashing colors, and lots of patterns and odd shapes. As the populace began to adopt this radical style and make it the norm, the 'cool kids' had to dress more and more radical. To be cool was no longer to conform to the masses, but to express your personality and imagination in what your wore. Because of this dressing became a contest of who could look crazier, and many people resorted to the thrift store to find one-of-a-kind garments. But wearing thrifted items was cool for another reason - political and social protest. Wearing a used garment was important to those who wanted to be viewed as anti-materialistic, opposed to the fashion rules, and, in the case of a lot of the garments from army surplus stores, make a statement against the war.
Of course the media loved this colorful new way of dressing and popularized it all over through movies, television, etc. By the time the 70's rolled around, people could get away with almost any look because dressing in a crazy manner was loosing it's shock factor.
This info is taken form the book "Thrift Score" by Al Hoff

The hippy movement still inspires many designers, as well as young people, today.
More modern versions of hippy.... (all from foto decadent Ex. for the last one, which is form Panda Mag)

Blue

I feel quite blue of late.... our county is going down hill rather at a fast pace, and Obama is only going to accelerate it a little faster than McCain. It is so lame that the media makes the populace think these two men were our only choice.
Last night i hid in my cave (i.e. room) and watched 'Two for the Road' (never has there been a more dysfunctional couple) and 'A nuns tale'. Audrey Hepburn is amazing.
Now I have to go study for my Physics lab final and then I am going to go into town to sculpt and do some exercise at fencing club. Life continues despite who rules the country.
On the brighter side of things, I have finally begun to make a lot of friends at school (or maybe one should call them interesting acquaintances). Now at least I can sulk in group settings.

sweater and shoes- thrifted
play-suit- goodwill
lace top- vintage

Thanks to my little brother for taking the picture.

Milk...

I really am loving 'Milk' by Kings of Leon right now....I need to get some itunes credit so I can download some of their music.

The Skeleton is a study I did of the skeleton at the studio. It is rather out of proportion. The Photo is form www.hedislimane.com/diary/ (I am not sure why but I can't ever get it to link properly.... any suggestions).
Anyways, if you have never seen that website then you need to, it is amazing.

Katherine

I am really excited because I am leaving to stay with one of my dear friends, Katherine, for the weekend. Here are some pictures I took over the week we spent together during summer....

All film, by the way.

If it feels as though there must be something missing, then you must know how it would feel to be complete

I have forgotten how wonderful Page france is. They are such a joy to listen to.

dress and bag are thrifted. Thanks to my dad for taking the picture.

This is a little something I did a few months ago and had poured in aluminum. First I carved it in to a block of sandstone (backwards and inside out - so confusing) and then it was poured. I sold it to an uncle, but before letting go of it my dad took some snaps of it for my portfolio.

Cold Rainy art day

Haha I am quite a silly person. I have been wanting to wear a rain coat for a month and when it finally rains all day long I leave it at home. Anyways, today was, other than the weather which I was unprepared for, quite nice. I sculpted, went to the library and drew, went cafe hopping, and then went to an opening of a amazing new exhibit at my favorite gallery. By the end of the day I looked like a complete hobo because I was wet and had put on a bunch of clothes that were in the back of my car because it was cold!
My dad brought me my developed film yesterday, so here are some pictures of beloved city on nice days.
